Missy is a 26-year old Belgian Draft Horse that comes to us from Camp Eberhart in Three Rivers, MI. She joined the TEC team in May 2007. She has done everything from driving to showmanship to trail riding. Since joining TEC, Missy has become the "Painted Horse" when children from local schools come to TEC for A Day on The Farm. She’s a big girl who is perfect for our adult riders.  When you look in her eyes you see all the wisdom of her years.  Missy is Garth’s pasture buddy and keeps him in his place.

STIKLA

March 2016

Heartbreaking news to share ...

It is with a heavy heart that we share some sad news with you. Yesterday we said our final goodbye to Stikla. It was fitting since her registered name was Stikla from Windsong that it was a windy day when God took her to heaven. She was TEC’s go-to-horse to help those who were fearful. Always patient and steady, Stikla knew what was needed and never complained. As an instructor, I know how difficult it is to find a horse with her wisdom. She never let us down.

Stikla led a full life in her 28 years. She participated in dressage, jumping, trail riding, parades, western pleasure, gymkhana, drill teams, foxhunting, and horse camping. She became a mother for the first time at 18 years of age, which is old for a horse. Stikla took it all in stride but probably her most important work was her final calling as a therapeutic riding horse at TEC. Thank you Dawn Bruin-Slot and your family for sharing her with TEC. As Dawn said she was a “grand old dame” and she will be greatly missed.

Retired from TEC:  January 2016

It is with a heavy heart that we share this news … Due to health concerns, our Icelandic princess – Stikla – will be retiring from TEC in the next few weeks. Dawn Bruin-Slot, who donated Stikla a number of years ago, is taking her to a new home in northern Michigan where she will enjoy green pastures and new friends. We are all very fond of Stikla who has been an amazing partner, faithfully doing her job with never a complaint. She has been our “go to” horse for volunteers learning to lead, while giving riders encouragement and confidence. She made “I did it!” moments possible. Stikla has done many jobs in her 28 years, but probably her most important position was what she gave to all of us at TEC. Thank you Dawn for sharing her with us! Thanks Stikla and happy retirement. It is well deserved!
