Equine Assistant
Do you enjoy working with horses? Do you like to interact with people of all ages and capabilities? Yes! Then you may enjoy being an equine assistant volunteer at TEC. These volunteers work directly with our horses and riders during therapeutic riding lessons.
In general, these volunteers* must be able to:

Be active for 45 minutes, including walking and light jogging.

Work indoors and outdoors, in various weather extremes.

Follow fast-paced directions from the instructor.

Assist riders weighing up to 200 pounds.
Equine Assistant Volunteer Opportunities
Horse Leader

Responsible for leading the horse per the instructor’s directions.

Generally, have previous horse experience.
Sidewalker

Responsible for the rider.

Provide physical assistance and stabilization as necessary.

Communicate with the rider when appropriate, including verbal and non-verbal prompts.
Ring/Lesson Assistant

Responsible for supporting the instructor in delivering the lesson.
Horse Exerciser
-
Responsible for exercising the horses outside of normal lesson times.

Must be 16 years of age or older to fill this role.
